Property Taxes
In Oregon, property taxes are collected by counties and are then remitted to the various jurisdictions, such as the city, park district, fire district, school district, Port of Portland. Beaverton is divided into 10 different tax code areas, depending on which agencies levy taxes in each area. For FY 2006-07 the total County-wide property tax rate ranged from $15.48 to $17.30. Of these rates, the City of Beaverton portion is $4.21 per $1,000 of a property's assessed value.
For FY 2006-07, the City's tax rate of $4.21 when applied to Beaverton's total taxable assessed valuation of $6,531,047,930 will produce $26,131,650 in revenues. For more information about the Oregon property tax system, see Washington County Department of Assessment & Taxation.
The $4.21 tax rate is comprised of two components: $3.95 is for general government operations (police, library and street lighting), and $0.26 is for debt service on the new Library Building. The City's general government operations tax levy is subject to the provisions of Measure 50 which established a maximum "permanent" tax rate. The City's maximum permanent tax rate is $4.62 and was based upon a new property tax base approved by our citizens in November 1996. The new tax base will be phased in to fund public safety needs in proportion to the City's population growth. For additional information on the City's property taxes and the FY 2006-2007 budget, please review the Budget Web page
